In November 2026, the latest operational data for cross regional green power trading across the country was released, and the scale of green power transmitted from the western new energy base to the eastern load center continued to break new records, further highlighting the resource allocation value of the thousand mile cross regional green power channel.

China's coal resources are mainly concentrated in the western and northern regions, while new energy resources such as wind and solar power are highly concentrated in the northwest and northern regions. The electricity load is relatively concentrated in economically developed provinces along the eastern coast, and the spatial inverse distribution characteristics of energy resources and electricity demand have long existed. The traditional mode of relying on long-distance coal transportation in the past had high logistics costs and high carbon emission intensity, making it difficult to adapt to the rapidly growing low-carbon energy demand in the eastern region.

In the first 10 months of 2026, the scale of cross regional green electricity trading in China exceeded 180 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 47%. The proportion of green electricity transmitted through ultra-high voltage channels in the five provinces of Northwest China exceeded 32% of the total amount of electricity transmitted for the first time. The clean electricity from the western wind and solar power base is directly transmitted to load centers such as the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta through cross regional transmission lines, which not only solves the problem of new energy consumption in the western region, but also significantly reduces the carbon emission intensity of electricity consumption in the eastern region.

The current cross regional green power trading mechanism is continuously improving, and the combination channels of transmission rights, green certificates, and green power trading are constantly being opened up.
