The sea breeze of Jiaodong Peninsula wraps around the low sound of the nuclear power base, extending westward along the 1197 kilometer long ultra-high voltage line. In October 2026, the Yanwei 1000 kV high-voltage project was officially completed and put into operation, which is also the first ultra-high voltage AC transmission and transformation project put into operation in China during the 15th Five Year Plan period. This power channel spanning mountains and seas has completely opened up the key artery for the transmission of clean electricity from Jiaodong.
Jiaodong Green Power Transmission Capacity Achieves Leap Forward
The Yanwei High Voltage Project has a total length of 1197 kilometers, passing through five cities including Yantai, Qingdao, and Rizhao. It will simultaneously build one 1000 kV switch station, expand two 1000 kV substations, and assemble over 2100 iron towers, including 17 sea construction iron towers. It is the first ultra-high voltage AC project in China to achieve synchronous construction across mountains and seas. After the project is put into operation, the power transmission channels of nuclear power bases in Yantai Haiyang, Laiyang and other places will be directly opened, and the bottleneck of surplus clean power transmission to the west in the Jiaodong Peninsula will be completely eliminated.
As of October 2026, the installed capacity of non fossil energy in Shandong Province has exceeded 150 million kilowatts. The Yanwei region is home to the vast majority of Shandong's nuclear power and nearly half of its offshore wind power resources. Previously, due to capacity limitations in external transmission channels, new energy output regulation had to be carried out in some periods. After the operation of Yanwei High Voltage, the regional green power transmission capacity has been directly increased by over 3 million kilowatts, completely changing the previous situation of tight green power consumption in some areas.

The pattern of Shandong power grid has ushered in a key upgrade
After the Yanwei High Voltage Project is put into operation, it will be connected to the existing ultra-high voltage network in Shandong, forming the first provincial ultra-high voltage dual ring network in China. The dual ring structure serves as a backup for each other, greatly improving the ability of the power grid to resist system failures, and increasing the reliability of power supply in the province by nearly 15%. After the project is put into operation, the nuclear power and offshore wind power resources along the eastern coast of Shandong can be efficiently transported to the industrial load center in western Shandong, achieving full interconnectivity of green power throughout the province.
As the first ultra-high voltage communication project to land at the beginning of the 15th Five Year Plan, Yanweite High Voltage not only connects the key channel for Shandong's green power configuration, but also provides a replicable construction sample for the subsequent national coastal clean energy base transmission project.
The wind turbines and nuclear power units along the coast operate smoothly and synchronously, and clean electricity flows along the new ultra-high voltage lines to the industrial and urban areas of Qilu. A new page of Shandong's green energy transformation is slowly unfolding with the operation of this major artery.Editor/Cheng Liting
