On July 6, 2020, the second phase expansion project of Haikou Meilan International Airport in Hainan Province was completed as planned, and the main projects such as the flight zone, T2 terminal building and integrated transportation project were completed, creating conditions for the project to be put into operation during the year.

Meilan Phase II is a major landmark project in the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port. Construction started in September 2016, and the main project was completed 30 days ahead of the original schedule.

The second phase of the Meilan project is a benchmark for a world-class airport. With the goal of free and convenient transportation of people in and out of the Free Trade Port, the Free Trade Port is built. The total investment of the project is about 17.8 billion yuan, and the newest 4F flight zone is built, including a 3600-meter runway, which can take off and land A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft. After completion, Meilan Airport will realize dual-runway operation, which can guarantee a maximum annual passenger throughput of 45 million passengers and an annual cargo and mail throughput of 600,000 tons.

The newly built T2 terminal area is about 296,000 square meters, focusing on improving the support capacity of international routes, providing conditions for the landing of the fifth and seventh flight rights, and ensuring the annual throughput of international passengers of 8-10 million passengers. According to the positioning of the aviation super hub, Meilan Phase II has realized efficient and convenient transfers by various transportation modes such as aviation, high-speed rail and highways. New roads and bridges are 14 kilometers long, the construction area of the ground transportation center and parking building is about 170,000 square meters, and new parking is added. 3,700, and reserved tunnels and platforms for the subway. Meilan Phase II teamed up with China Zhongfang to build the country's largest airport duty-free commercial area, with commercial area accounting for 11% of the total terminal area.
