From August 27 to 28, the pre-feasibility study review meeting for the Shantou-Chaoshan Airport section of the East Guangdong Intercity Railway, the Chaozhou East-Chaoshan Airport section, and the Chaoshan Airport-Jieyang South section was held in Beijing. It is reported that the Shantou to Chaoshan Airport section, the Chaozhou East to Chaoshan Airport section, and the Chaoshan Airport to Jieyang South section under this review are part of the Guangdong East Intercity Railway Network.

The Shantou-Chaoshan Airport section of the East Guangdong Intercity Railway is located in Shantou and Jieyang. The newly-built main line is 41.76km (excluding Chaoshan Airport Station), 23.7km in Shantou City and 18.06km in Jieyang City. There are 8 stations on the whole line (including the starting point Shantou Station, excluding the terminal Chaoshan Airport Station), including 1 underground station, 5 elevated stations, and 2 ground stations. The designed speed is 160 km/h. The estimated total investment is 14.930 billion. yuan.

The section from Chaozhou East to Chaoshan Airport is located in Chaozhou City and Jieyang City. The line starts at Chaozhou East Station in the east, passes through Chaozhou City Center and Chaoshan Station, and ends at Chaoshan Airport Station in the west. The line is 24.05km in length and has a total of 5 lines. The station has a design speed of 160 km/h and an estimated investment of 8.44 billion yuan.

The eastern Guangdong Intercity Chaoshan Airport to the southern section of Jieyang is located in the territory of Jieyang City. The line starts from Chaoshan Airport Station in the east, passes through the East China Sea, Yuhu Lake, and ends at the Intercity Jieyang South Station. It is an elevated station with a designed speed of 160 km/h and an estimated investment of 5.229 billion yuan.

According to the person in charge of the project, the planning goal of the eastern Guangdong intercity railway network is to form an intercity railway network with Shantou, Shanwei, Chaozhou, and Jieyang as the main nodes, covering major cities and towns in eastern Guangdong. In the future, after the intercity railway is put into use, it will realize a half-hour commuting circle in central cities in Shanchaojie area and an one-hour traffic circle in eastern Guangdong, providing bus-based fast inter-city passenger transport services for eastern Guangdong, and helping along the route Sustainable economic and social development.
