On September 29, 2020, Shanghai Construction Engineering issued an announcement that the groundbreaking ceremony of the S4 Highway Fengpudong Bridge and Connection Project undertaken by Shanghai Construction Engineering was successfully held, marking the construction stage of the project.

The Fengpu East Bridge and Connection Project of S4 Highway is a major project in Shanghai in 2020. It starts from the south of the S4 Zhuanqiao main line toll station in the north and to the south of the Xizha Highway in the south. It runs through Minhang District and Fengxian District along the line, with a total length of 8,737 meters.

The upper structure of the main bridge of Fengpu East Bridge adopts a continuous beam bridge with corrugated steel webs with light weight and good performance. This structure has better landscape, better economy, quick construction and convenient maintenance. It is also the first continuous beam bridge with corrugated steel webs on the Huangpu River. The lower structure adopts hollow thin-walled piers consistent with Fengpu Bridge. The construction of the main bridge and approach bridge of the bridge adopts prefabricated assembly technology to realize the rapid, green and low-impact construction of the bridge. Compared with many newly built bridges, the biggest difficulty of the Fengpu East Bridge project is to reduce the impact of bridge construction on the passage of ships in the channel, and because it is close to the S4 highway, it also needs to take into account the road traffic conditions.

The current situation of Fengpu Bridge is a two-way 4-lane, which has always been an "obstruction pass" on the S4 expressway, and the traffic jam is quite serious during peak traffic. With the completion of the S4 Highway Fengpu East Bridge and its connection project and the current status of Fengpu Bridge reconstruction, the lane scale of the S4 Expressway at this important node section will become two-way 6 lanes + emergency parking zones on both sides, with a design speed of 100km/h .

The completion of the project will break the bottleneck, greatly alleviate the traffic congestion at this node, effectively improve vehicle traffic conditions, make up for the lack of road service levels and shortcomings in traffic safety, and promote the downtown area of Shanghai and Fengxian, Jinshan, and Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone And the links between the Yangtze River Delta.
