The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) awarded two civil contracts worth US$392.5 million (S$526 million) for the construction of four Jurong Regional Line (JRL) stations and related viaducts.

The first contract was won by a joint venture (joint venture) between China Civil Engineering Construction (Singapore Branch) and SCB Construction Company. It involves the design and construction of two stations near the Jurong Town Company (JTC) industrial zone. The joint venture will also be responsible for the construction of a 1.1-kilometer viaduct between the two stations along Jurong Pier Road.

The Land Transport Authority of Singapore awarded the second contract to the local company Hwa Seng Builder. The scope of the project includes the design and construction of two stations, as well as a 1.4-kilometer viaduct between the two stations near Nanyang Technological University.

The project is expected to start in the second quarter of 2021 and be completed in 2029. The Jurong Regional Line is an elevated rapid transit (MRT) line under construction to improve connectivity in the western part of Singapore. This line will mainly serve Nantah University, Jurong Industrial Zone, Jurong Innovation Zone, Pandan Reservoir and the future Tenga area, which are not directly connected to the railway network.

In September 2020, Siemens Mobility won a contract of 135 million euros to provide a railway signal system for the Jurong regional line. According to the agreement, Siemens will implement a computer-based train control signal system on the entire JRL track.

The Land Transport Authority of Singapore also won a contract to purchase 62 fully automated driverless car trains for the production line. The first train is expected to be delivered around mid-2024. Editor/Huang Lijun
