On June 14, 2021, the Jinan Yellow River Bridge double-track project is located 33.5 meters downstream of the current Jinan Yellow River Bridge. The total length of the bridge project is 6911 meters, and the main span of 488 meters will create a new world record. The total investment of the expansion project is 9.4 billion yuan, per kilometer. The cost reached 1.2 billion yuan.
The Jinan Yellow River Bridge double-track project adopts a two-way eight-lane first-class highway, and the construction of urban expressway technical standards (the starting point-zero interchange and the Yellow River North interchange-the end section recommends two-way six-lane standards), the design speed is 80 kilometers per hour, and the roadbed width is 34 meters (The width of the two-way six-lane roadbed is 26.5 meters). The Jinan Yellow River Bridge double-track project includes four sections of the main line viaduct of the zero-point interchange, the joint construction of the Huashan North Public Rail Viaduct, the joint construction of the Yellow River Bridge by the public rail and the approach bridge outside the North Dike. There are two types of viaducts. One is directly connected to the existing Second Ring East viaduct, which is a two-way six-lane first-class highway and an urban expressway; the other is a public rail combined viaduct with upper and lower decks arranged in layers.

The upper layer is a two-way eight-lane highway bridge deck with a bridge width of 33.5 meters; the lower layer is a two-lane rail transit with a bridge width of 15 meters. According to the flood control requirements of the Yellow River, the public rail in the river cannot be separated. After crossing the Yellow River levee, the highway and track longitudinal slope descend synchronously, realizing the separation of the public rail.
As a bridge that integrates public and rail, the new bridge of Jinan Yellow River Bridge also has a rail transit station, which is the "Yellow River South Bank Station" of the first phase of rail transit line 7. It is reported that the civil structure design of rail transit is composed of 6 A-type cars; the maximum train speed is 80 kilometers per hour.
