On July 5, 2021, a number of projects in Gwadar Port in Pakistan will hold a centralized construction ceremony, laying a solid foundation for the economic construction and industrial development of China and Pakistan.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a speech at the ceremony that Gwadar Port is becoming the key to the prosperity and development of Pakistan, especially Balochistan province where the port is located. With the start of construction in the northern zone of the Gwadar Free Zone and the implementation of multiple projects, the Gwadar Port will bring new opportunities for regional trade. He said that there are many experiences in China's development achievements that Pakistan can learn from, and the Pakistani government is working hard to improve the country's business environment and attract foreign investors.

The Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong said that Gwadar Port is a leading project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. With the joint efforts of China and Pakistan, Gwadar Port has achieved important results in port operations, free zone development, transportation infrastructure and social and livelihood projects.

It is understood that the projects that started on the same day include the infrastructure construction in the northern zone of the Gwadar Port Free Zone, the Gwadar Fertilizer Plant, the Gwadar Exhibition Center, the Gwadar Animal Vaccine Plant and the Gwadar Lubricant Plant. On the same day, China and Pakistan also signed a memorandum of understanding on the donation of household solar energy equipment by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, and signed an implementation agreement on the Chinese government's assistance in the construction of a desalination plant in Gwadar Port.

In recent years, under the operation of China Overseas Port Holdings Co., Ltd., Gwadar Port has made important progress, including the opening of fixed liners, the completion of infrastructure construction and investment in the southern zone of the free zone, and the development of Afghanistan's transit trade. Gwadar Port Free Zone is adjacent to Gwadar Port, covering an area of about 923 hectares, including two areas in the north and south. Among them, the southern area is mainly used for commodity exhibition and sales, transit, and overseas warehouses; the northern area is a processing and manufacturing area, mainly for the development of port-oriented industries.
