On February 11, local time, representatives of the Jordanian and Iraqi governments officially signed the first part of the electricity contract agreement in the capital Amman, marking a solid step forward in the cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy. According to the agreement, Jordan will supply electricity to Iraq with 132 kilovolts, which will not only help ease the pressure on Iraq's electricity supply, but also inject new vitality into economic and trade relations between the two countries.

This collaboration is an important part of the simultaneous grid initiative being promoted by Jordan and Iraq. Through the establishment of synchronous power grids, the two countries will be able to achieve power complementarity and improve the stability and reliability of the power system. The move is not only beneficial to the two countries' own energy security, but is also expected to provide a model and reference for energy interconnection in the entire Middle East region.

According to the details of the agreement, Iraq will receive about 40 megawatts of electricity supply in the first phase of cooperation. The implementation of this phase is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year. As the cooperation progresses, the total power supply capacity is expected to reach 150 to 200 MW. What is more, with the arrival of the medium-term connection phase, the power supply between the two countries is expected to reach 500 megawatts, which will provide a strong power guarantee for Iraq's economic development.

It is worth mentioning that in order to ensure the smooth progress of cooperation, the governments of Jordan and Iraq will also set up a special working group to coordinate and solve various problems that may arise in the course of cooperation. At the same time, the two countries will also strengthen exchanges and cooperation in power technology, management and operation, and jointly promote the smooth implementation of the synchronous power grid plan.

The signing of the electricity cooperation agreement has not only brought real economic benefits to Jordan and Iraq, but also an important practice for the regional energy interconnection strategy. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, such cooperation will achieve more fruitful results and contribute to peace and development in the Middle East. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
