China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. (referred to as "China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau") successfully won the bid for the 500MW photovoltaic project in Jizak Oblast, Uzbekistan in mid February 2025. This project is jointly developed by China Electric Power Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as "China Electric Power Equipment") and Poly Changda Engineering Co., Ltd. It covers the construction of photovoltaic areas, booster stations, transmission lines, and expansion projects of opposite stations. The total installed capacity of the project is planned to be 600MWp, with no less than 500MWac on the AC side, and the expected construction period is 24 months.
China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau expands its new energy landscape again
This winning bid marks another important breakthrough for China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau in the field of new energy. As one of the largest single PV projects in Uzbekistan, this project is not only another landmark project of China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau in countries along the the Belt and Road, but also highlights the deep participation and strong strength of Chinese enterprises in the new energy market in Central Asia. China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau will undertake the core construction tasks to ensure timely delivery of the project and inject new impetus into the local economic development.
Uzbekistan accelerates energy transition
In recent years, Uzbekistan has vigorously promoted the transformation of its energy structure, with plans to achieve a renewable energy generation ratio of 40% by 2030. The country has abundant sunshine resources, with an average annual sunshine duration of over 3000 hours, making it highly potential for photovoltaic power generation. The 500MW photovoltaic project in Jizak is part of the Ukrainian government's new energy development strategy, aimed at effectively alleviating the local electricity shortage and promoting the adjustment of the energy structure in Jizak state. The Ukrainian government has introduced multiple international capital and enterprises to participate in energy infrastructure construction, including Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, UAE's Masdar, and Chinese companies.
Chinese enterprises deeply cultivate the infrastructure market in Central Asia
Chinese enterprises are continuously deepening their layout in infrastructure construction such as new energy, transportation, and water in Uzbekistan. For example, Shaanxi Road and Bridge Group Co., Ltd. recently won the bid for the construction project of the Khiva sewage pipeline network in Uzbekistan, which is expected to significantly improve the local sewage treatment capacity. The expansion of central enterprises such as China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau and China Electric Power Equipment in the Ukrainian market further highlights the deep participation and positive influence of Chinese enterprises in the energy and infrastructure fields in Central Asia.
Project significance
The landing of the 500MW photovoltaic project will provide a demonstration role for Chinese enterprises to further participate in the Central Asian new energy market, and also provide strong support for Uzbekistan's energy transformation goals. The successful implementation of this project will not only help improve the stability and reliability of local energy supply, but also promote the sustainable development of the local economy and the improvement of people's living standards.(This article is from the official website of Jian Dao www.seetao.com.
