On June 10, 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo chaired a closed-door cabinet meeting at the presidential palace to discuss plans to build a "giant sea wall" on the north shore of Java to address the threats posed by climate change and rising sea levels. The project aims to protect coastal areas from seawater intrusion and coastal erosion, while providing clean water resources to improve environmental resilience.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy said Prabowo stressed that the project is not only an infrastructure project, but also part of the country's long-term environmental security strategy. The seawall will serve as a disaster barrier and a freshwater storage system, which is expected to improve the living conditions of coastal residents and ensure sustainable development in the future.

Minister of Infrastructure Agus Harimati pointed out that the construction of the giant seawall will adopt a multi-faceted strategy, not using concrete walls across the board, but combining "grey solutions" and "green solutions", such as ecological measures such as mangrove restoration, to achieve a win-win situation for both engineering efficiency and environmental protection. 、

"It is expected that this seawall construction will prevent tidal flooding, reduce coastal subsidence, and serve as a clean reservoir," said Wijaya, who since 2016 has been working with experts from the Netherlands and South Korea to study the feasibility of a 946-kilometer stretch of seawall from Cilegon to Gresik.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
