The systematic maintenance project of the Baimata Bridge deck in Dunhuang City has officially started, marking the rebirth of this prestressed concrete continuous box girder decorative arch bridge that has not undergone systematic maintenance for 13 years. The project is scheduled to be fully completed and reopened to traffic before September 18th. Through precise repairs and intelligent upgrades, safety hazards on the bridge deck will be completely eliminated, and the quality of traffic will be improved to a new standard.

As a key passage connecting Dunhuang city and the West Bridge, the Baimata Bridge has undergone systematic maintenance for the first time since its opening in July 2010. This repair is due to the bridge deck issues reported by citizens - after professional investigation, the expansion and contraction devices on both sides of the bridge have been severely deformed, and the pavement layer of the bridge deck has large areas of potholes, ruts, and bumps, resulting in bumpy driving for vehicles; The problem of misalignment at the junction of bridges and roads is prominent, which not only affects the urban landscape but also poses a direct safety hazard.
The project adopts a three-stage precision construction method: the first stage has completed the bridge deck surface cleaning operation and removed the aging pavement layer; In the middle stage, the focus will be on repairing the deformation and expansion device, using high durability modified asphalt to repave the bridge deck, and applying laser 3D scanning technology to accurately adjust the bridge abutment connection errors, ensuring that the repair accuracy is controlled within 2 millimeters; In the final stage, intelligent monitoring sensors will be added to build a real-time warning system for bridge health status. It is worth noting that BIM technology is used to establish a full lifecycle management model for maintenance, achieving visual tracking of construction progress and quality data.
This repair not only solves the current problem, but also focuses on the long term - the flatness of the bridge deck is expected to increase by 40% after repair, the service life of expansion joints is extended to 15 years, and the intelligent monitoring system can warn of structural abnormalities 3 days in advance. As a key urban renewal project in Dunhuang City, this project has been included in the provincial-level bridge maintenance demonstration project. During the maintenance period, a semi enclosed construction plan will be implemented, and an electronic guide screen will be used to provide real-time progress and detour prompts, minimizing the impact on citizens' travel.

After the completion of the project, the Baimata Bridge will serve urban development with a new look of safety, intelligence, and aesthetics. Its repair technology standards and intelligent maintenance mode will provide a replicable Dunhuang solution for the maintenance of similar bridges in the northwest region, becoming a landmark project showcasing the city's refined governance capabilities.
