A super project spanning thousands of miles and connecting the snowy plateau with the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has officially launched. On September 16, the mobilization meeting for the construction of the ± 800 kV UHV DC transmission project from Southeast Tibet to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (hereinafter referred to as the "Tibet Guangdong DC Project") was held simultaneously in Guangdong, Xizang, Yunnan and Guangxi provinces and regions by means of video link. Huang Kunming, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Wang Junzheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Wang Weizhong, Governor of Guangdong Province, Gama Zedeng, Chairman of the Xizang Autonomous Region, and relevant responsible comrades from Guangxi, Yunnan, State Grid and China Southern Power Grid jointly started the project construction.

It is reported that the Tibet Guangdong DC Project, with a total length of 2681 km and a total investment of 53.2 billion yuan, spans Xizang, Yunnan, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces and regions. It is a major long-distance transmission project connecting the Southern Power Grid and the State Grid Business Zone, and also a flexible DC transmission project with the strongest transmission capacity, the most advanced technology and the largest investment scale in the world. After completion, it is expected that the annual power transmission will reach 43 billion kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to reducing the consumption of standard coal by about 12 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by about 33 million tons per year.

  The project will not only help promote the transformation of resource development and ecological advantages into development advantages in the southeast of Xizang, support Tibet to achieve long-term stability and high-quality development, but also significantly improve the capacity of new energy consumption and power security in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, providing solid green energy support for "re building a new Guangdong" and fulfilling the new positioning of "one point, two places" in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. He expressed gratitude for the support of national ministries, State Grid, Southern Power Grid, and various provinces and regions along the line, and called on all parties to continue to work together to make the project a model project for energy cooperation between the east and the west.

Gama Zedeng, on behalf of the Xizang Autonomous Region Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups in the region, warmly congratulated the start of the project and paid high tribute to all the supporters and builders. He emphasized that the project is a major practice in implementing the Party's governance strategy for Tibet and the new energy security strategy in the new era. After completion, it will promote the large-scale development of clean energy in southeastern Tibet and the "transmission of Tibetan electricity", help the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area achieve the "dual carbon" goal, promote high-quality economic and social development along the route, and build a community of the Chinese nation. Xizang will make every effort to provide service guarantee to ensure that the project is advanced in high quality and put into operation at an early date to benefit the people.

Xu Yongtang, Executive Vice Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Liu Yong, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province, stated that the two provinces and regions will actively cooperate and fully support the construction of the Tibet Guangdong DC project, work together with all parties to ensure the implementation, progress, and quality of the project, and jointly create high-quality power projects.

Zhang Zhigang, Chairman of State Grid Corporation of China, and Meng Zhenping, Chairman of Southern Power Grid, stated that the two power grid enterprises will effectively fulfill their responsibilities as energy central enterprises. With the guidance of national ministries and the support of various provinces and regions, they will promote engineering construction with the highest standards, the best quality, and the fastest speed, strive to play a green, economic, and social role as soon as possible, and provide strong support for national energy security and modernization construction.

The comprehensive launch of the Tibet Guangdong DC project marks a crucial step in China's energy green transformation and regional coordinated development strategy. In the future, with the completion and operation of this 2681 km long "electric power heaven road" spanning four provinces and regions, it will not only provide a strong export channel for Xizang's clean energy development, but also inject a steady stream of green power into the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, truly realizing "green power sharing, win-win development", and become another model in the construction of Chinese path to modernization energy system.
