On January 29, 2026, it was learned from the Academy of Forestry Sciences of the Autonomous Region that the State Forestry and Grassland Administration recently announced the first batch of key laboratories of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration that have been reorganized. The "Key Laboratory of Desert Oasis Ecosystem Protection and Restoration of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration" led by the Academy of Forestry Sciences of the Autonomous Region has been successfully approved, which is also the first key laboratory of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration in Xinjiang.

It is reported that the laboratory focuses on four research directions, namely the symbiotic mechanism and ecological effect monitoring and evaluation of desert oasis ecosystems, the innovation and breeding of forest and grass germplasm in desert oasis ecosystems, the conservation and functional improvement of vegetation in desert oasis ecosystems, the efficient utilization of ecological economic plant resources, and the high-quality development of characteristic ecological industries. The aim is to overcome key technological challenges in the field of desert oasis ecosystem protection and restoration, and provide important support for the realization of national ecological security strategic goals.

The approval of the first key laboratory of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration in Xinjiang will further promote the deep integration of industry, academia, and research in the field of ecological protection and restoration of desert oases in China, and provide important scientific and technological support for the construction of the "Three North" campaign and the Taklamakan Desert edge blockade campaign.
