On the morning of June 3, 2026, the two major hubs of the Pinglu Canal, Ma Dao and Qishi, officially started water storage operations. The entire canal was smoothly connected to water, and the project entered the stage of trial operation and commissioning.

The Pinglu Canal is a key backbone project of the Western Land Sea New Channel, with a total length of 134.2 kilometers. Its northern starting point is located at the mouth of Pingtang River in Hengzhou City, Guangxi, passing through Luwu Town, Lingshan County, and leading directly to the Beibu Gulf sea area along the Qinjiang River.

The Pinglu Canal is the first river sea connected canal project planned by the state after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The waterway meets the requirements for 5000 ton cargo ships and is scheduled to be officially put into operation in September of that year. After the canal was put into use, goods from the southwest were transported out to sea through this river. Compared to bypassing Guangzhou Port, the inland waterway route was reduced by more than 560 kilometers, creating the shortest and most cost-effective sea transportation channel in the southwest.Editor/Gong Ziwei
