On June 12, 2026, Guangzhou Metro Group achieved remarkable results in its overseas business by partnering with China Civil Engineering Group to sign a contract for the operation and maintenance of the western tramway project in Colombia. This also enabled a Chinese enterprise to win the first independent project in South America to be responsible for the entire process of rail transit operation and management.

Line Overview
The total length of the tram line in western Colombia is 39.66 kilometers, with a total of 17 stations, connecting the capital Bogota with four key towns in the province of Cundinamarca. During the cooperation period, Guangzhou Metro will provide a full cycle service of up to 21.5 years, covering the entire process from early preparation, formal operation to final handover, while also obtaining franchise rights for commercial resources along the line.

Jorge Emilio Rey, Governor of Cundinamarca Province, led a team to visit the Guangzhou Metro Museum and Line Network Command Center, and highly praised the local rail transit development strength. He pointed out that the project is a key project for China and Costa Rica to jointly build the the Belt and Road. He expects to open the line based on mature operation experience, drive local employment and benefit millions of people along the line.
complementary advantages
Both parties' leaders are confident in the prospects of the project. Chinese companies will integrate the operational advantages of Guangzhou Metro's entire industry chain with overseas infrastructure experience, and work together to build the project into a benchmark for infrastructure cooperation between the two countries.
