In the desert area of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, new photovoltaic panels are being laid out in succession, and intelligent charging facilities are rapidly landing. This traditional oil and gas hot land is undergoing a green transformation. Relying on mature new energy technologies and efficient construction capabilities, Chinese enterprises are deeply involved in various clean energy projects in the local area, refreshing the speed of regional energy construction. Faced with the global decarbonization wave and geopolitical fluctuations, many Gulf countries are no longer limited to the oil economy, actively seeking transformation breakthroughs, and turning their core focus on new energy cooperation to China. Various landing projects continue to be implemented, injecting strong momentum into local low-carbon development.

Accelerate cooperation

Since 2026, the United Arab Emirates has continued to deepen its cooperation in new energy with China. The official has repeatedly praised the efficiency of China's new energy construction, and it only takes six weeks to build a brand new charging station locally. The Algerian delegation has closely connected with 22 Chinese new energy enterprises, focusing on core areas such as photovoltaics, energy storage, intelligent charging, and energy digitization. According to Abu Dhabi's development plan, the local area will add no less than three million kilowatts of solar energy installed capacity annually, while simultaneously promoting the layout of supercharging networks, energy storage systems, and energy smart devices. With the support of Chinese technology, multiple clean energy projects in the United Arab Emirates are operating stably. The 2.1 gigawatt Eldafra photovoltaic power station can meet the electricity needs of 200000 households, and the wind power demonstration project guarantees electricity for 23000 households annually. The current installed capacity of renewable energy is 7.7 gigawatts, and it is expected to exceed 23 gigawatts by 2031.

Highlight advantages

Compared to European and American energy companies, China's new energy cooperation model has significant advantages. The cooperation threshold between European and American enterprises is high, the construction period is long, and strict political terms are attached. Technology transfer is restricted, and equipment is difficult to adapt to the high-temperature desert environment in the Middle East. Chinese enterprises have the advantage of a full industry chain, providing one-stop services for equipment manufacturing, engineering construction, post operation and maintenance, and digital scheduling, with controllable costs and extremely high implementation efficiency. Gulf countries have abundant solar thermal resources and sufficient transformation funds, while China holds mature technology, production capacity, and project experience. The resources and technologies of both sides complement each other deeply, and cooperation is not bound by geopolitical camps, forming a stable two-way win-win pattern. Keywords: Gulf countries, Domestic new energy latest news, energy transformation

Strategic transformation

The deep cultivation of new energy cooperation with China by Gulf countries stems from multiple strategic considerations. The global trend towards decarbonization is irreversible, and there are significant development risks associated with a single oil economy. Energy transition is an inevitable choice for local economic diversification. At the same time, Europe and the United States have long used the Middle East energy market as a channel for resource plunder, often exerting pressure through technology and investment, while China has always insisted on mutually beneficial cooperation without additional conditions, which is in line with the independent development needs of Gulf countries. At present, the cooperation between the two sides has been upgraded from scattered projects to a national level long-term strategic layout, helping Gulf countries cultivate local new energy industries, and also opening up vast overseas markets for China's new energy industry, providing a new model for global green energy development.Editor/Li Xiaohua
