Recently, under the joint witness of Sultan Hussein bin Tariq of Oman and French President Macron, the power solutions company under the French power company EDF signed a cooperation agreement with the Omani government. This is not only a commercial signing, but also a crucial step towards Oman's "2040 Vision" - a pumped storage power station with a total installed capacity of 2000 megawatts and a sustainable digital infrastructure platform with a capacity of 1000 megawatts will rise up on this land, equipping this Gulf country with a strong green heart and intelligent brain.

Two gigawatts of energy storage to stabilize the sea god needle

The core of this contract is the Jebel Abid pumped storage power station located near the Dyke River Valley Dam, with a planned installed capacity of up to 2000 megawatts. As the largest facility of its kind in the Middle East, it will provide long-term energy storage capacity, effectively smoothing out the intermittent fluctuations of new energy generation, significantly improving the consumption level of renewable energy in Oman's power grid, and becoming the anchor for ensuring the stability of the power system.

The rise of gigabit digital infrastructure

At the same time, the Omani government, in collaboration with the Electricity and Collaborative Investment Group, plans to jointly build a 1000 MW sustainable digital infrastructure platform. The project aims to build Oman into a hub for regional artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and high-end data processing, supporting the landing of a new generation of data centers through highly reliable green energy supply, and comprehensively accelerating Oman's digital economy transformation. Accelerating the Implementation of Vision 2040

These two projects are highly aligned with Oman's Vision 2040, focusing on the three core areas of economic diversification, energy transformation, and digitization. After the completion of the project, it will jointly strengthen Oman's energy security and help it transform from a traditional energy country to a dual hub of energy and digital technology in the Central and Northeast Africa region, achieving a leapfrog upgrade in industrial structure.Editor/Gao Xue
