The sea breeze at Tema Port is mixed with the scent of diesel and sea salt, and the loud roar of excavators breaks the tranquility of the early morning in eastern Ghana. Recently, with the first shovel of soil falling, the second phase expansion project of the oil refinery invested and built by the Chinese enterprise Sentuo Group officially kicked off. This once barren land is gradually evolving into a new engine on Ghana's industrial map.
For Ghana, which has long relied on imported refined oil products, every upgrade of this refinery is a pulse of the national economy. Sentuo Group has been deeply involved in this area for many years. After the successful production of the first phase project, the launch of the second phase marks the entry of China Canada capacity cooperation into a deep water zone.

Leapfrog growth in production capacity
The core of this expansion lies in the leap of "quantity". After the completion of the project, the daily processing capacity of Sentuo Refinery will be significantly increased from the current 40000 barrels to 100000 barrels. The change in this number means that Ghana's self-sufficiency rate in domestic refined oil supply will significantly increase, reducing the risk of imported inflation caused by fluctuations in international shipping prices. In the current reshaping of the global energy landscape, having stronger local refining capabilities means seizing the initiative in economic development.
Stable energy ballast stone
Looking back at early 2024, the commissioning of the first phase of the Sentuo project was just in time. At that time, the situation in the Middle East remained tense, and the global crude oil market was volatile, with many African countries facing a crisis of oil shortages. It is in this context that the Sento Refinery has established a valuable oil reserve buffer zone for Ghana with stable output, ensuring continuous supply to gas stations and relatively stable prices. Ghanaian President Mahama highly praised this and believed that this pragmatic investment is exactly what Ghana urgently needs at present.

Win win situation for employment and transformation
In addition to energy security, the core of industrialization lies in 'people'. According to Xu Ningquan, Executive Chairman of Sentuo Group, with the advancement of the second phase project, the employment scale of the factory area will double, and the total number of employees will expand from the current 700 to about 1500. This is not only a guarantee of income for 1500 families, but also a cradle for Ghanaian skilled workers. The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song, pointed out that this project coincides with Ghana's strategy of industrial upgrading, and through the in-situ appreciation of natural resources, it will promote this West African country to solidly move towards a modern industrial economy.keywords:Foreign construction news network
From groundbreaking to the roar of machinery, the expansion of the Sento Refinery is not only the stacking of steel and equipment, but also a vivid footnote to the mutual benefit and win-win situation between China and Canada. As the lights of Tema become increasingly dazzling, Ghana's industrialization dream is also becoming within reach.Editor/Yang Meiling
