The afterglow of the setting sun has not yet dissipated, and the lights of construction vehicles have already lit up on the grasslands of the Khyber Oblast in Kazakhstan. With giants such as Masdar in the United Arab Emirates, China Energy Construction, and ROX Energy in Vietnam announcing intensive construction or operation in the same week, a Central Asian energy revolution with a total scale of up to 16.5 billion US dollars has turned from a blueprint into a reality. This is not a distant plan, but an ongoing industrial migration - shifting from traditional oil and gas exports to the reconstruction of fully clean energy sources such as wind, solar, and water.

Multinational capital seizes large projects

Central Asia is becoming an arena for global capital. In Kazakhstan, a consortium led by Masdar of the United Arab Emirates has invested $1.4 billion to launch the largest foreign-funded renewable energy project in the country's history - a 1GW wind power with 300MW energy storage, and to build over 400 kilometers of transmission lines to explore a new business model for supplying power to data centers. At the same time, China's twin star solar and wind storage projects in Turkestan and Karaganda are progressing simultaneously, with a total investment of nearly 900 million US dollars. Surprisingly, Vietnam's ROX Energy has also put into operation the largest photovoltaic power station in Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, with an installed capacity of 1900MW, marking an unprecedented diversification of capital sources.

Green power transmission connects the major arteries

With the explosion of power points, grid interconnection has become the key to victory. Uzbekistan has the fastest growth rate, with a year-on-year increase of 28% in photovoltaic wind power generation in the first half of 2026. Its target has been significantly raised to 25GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030. In order to absorb this huge amount of green power, the CASA-1000 cross-border transmission project, with a total investment of 1.2 billion US dollars, is being fully promoted and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. At that time, surplus hydropower from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will be directly transmitted to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Tajikistan is also fully committed to the construction of the Rogun hydropower station, aiming to transform from a seasonal power shortage country to a regional clean power export country, and build a complete closed-loop system for power generation, storage, transmission, and sales. Energy storage is equipped as a mandatory standard

The deepest change in this energy revolution is the shift from simply pursuing installed capacity to building a stable power system. In April 2026, Kyrgyzstan's new renewable energy law will come into effect, mandating a 30% storage allocation for wind and solar projects. Kazakhstan has also arranged auctions for 1000MW wind power projects with energy storage between 2025 and 2026. Whether it's Masdar's 1GW wind power or China Energy Engineering's 800MW project group, energy storage systems have become standard configurations. This transition from building power stations to building systems not only ensures the stability of the power grid, but also provides a huge incremental market for Chinese enterprises in energy storage equipment, power grid support, and full chain compliance services.Editor/Gao Xue
