In the early morning, on Tashganshota Rustaweli Street, red painted BRT buses smoothly passed through the dedicated lane, reducing commuting time by nearly half. This first rapid transit line, constructed with the participation of Chinese enterprises, has become the preferred choice for citizens since its opening last autumn. Now, this' fast wind 'is blowing towards the southern hinterland of the city along the established blueprint.
At a recent regional development conference, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev painted a new transportation picture for this Central Asian city. With the acceleration of urbanization in Tashkent, the southern region urgently needs a high-capacity transportation artery to break through geographical barriers.

Nancheng New Arteries
According to the latest plan, a 5.5-kilometer BRT dedicated line will break ground in the Sergaeli district in 2027. This route will be laid along Yangi Sergaeli Street and seamlessly connected with the existing first BRT line. This is not an isolated project, but a crucial part of Tashkent's vast transportation network. As early as March this year, the Tashkent Transport Organization Center revealed that the city plans to construct a total of 4 BRT lines, and the total length of newly built bus corridors will exceed 16 kilometers. After the completion of this new line, it will greatly alleviate the congestion of southern residents entering and leaving the city center, and become a true booster for urban southward expansion.
Intelligent road network weaving
Building roads is only the first step, how to make roads safer and more efficient is the key. The President has issued a series of specific instructions regarding the 23 kilometer main road in the Sergaeli district. In the future, 455 sets of intelligent traffic signal lights will be installed in this area, which will automatically adjust timing according to traffic flow to improve traffic efficiency. At the same time, 150 old bus stops will undergo upgrading and renovation, and 10000 new parking spaces will effectively regulate roadside parking order. These measures together form the intelligent transportation framework of the Sergaeli District, aimed at fundamentally improving the level of road traffic safety.

Connectivity and Enjoyment
The ultimate goal of transportation upgrading is to serve both people and the city. The meeting particularly emphasized the importance of accelerating the construction of the new overpass on the Tashkent Ring Road, which will become a transportation hub connecting the Sergeli District, Beckettir District, and Yangihayo Special Zone with other regions. In addition, a new tourism guidance system is also being developed to enhance the city's image and facilitate foreign tourists. The relevant departments will plan boutique routes that connect historical sites, markets, characteristic neighborhoods, and dining venues, and set up multilingual maps at airports, train stations, and subway stations. A free mobile navigation application designed specifically for tourists will also be launched, allowing tourists to travel freely on the streets and alleys of Tashkent.
From the breakthrough of a single line to the formation of a network, Tashkent's transportation transformation is quietly reshaping the city's texture, allowing the fruits of development to benefit every citizen and visitor.Editor/Yang Meiling
