In the computer room, the roar of servers surges like a tide, which is the heartbeat of the digital world. The traditional construction site that builds this heart is always dusty and slow paced, with massive computing power always taking shape while waiting. A building construction method similar to assembling precision LEGO is rewriting the rules, making the computing fortress go from blueprint to operation incredibly fast.

Prefabricated revolution reshapes the foundation of computing power

NTT Facilities, the facilities department of NTT, has developed a new prefabricated data center construction technology that can shorten the construction period of ultra large scale data centers by 50%. The Hyper Ready Module modular solution adopts a factory prefabricated and on-site debugging construction mode, breaking the traditional construction rhythm. According to the enterprise plan, a super large scale data center can be fully implemented in two years, with planning and design completed in the first year and construction completed in the following year. Compared to the traditional construction cycle of 3 to 4 years for large data centers, the efficiency improvement is significant. This standardized system covers the entire process from design to construction, and is suitable for the construction of super large computing power facilities ranging from tens to hundreds of megawatts.

Reconstructing infrastructure logic with manufacturing thinking

This modular solution has distinct structural advantages, with core equipment such as cooling and electrical being externally arranged, greatly reducing the difficulty of prefabricated construction of the main building. Internally, the manufacturing oriented design concept is adopted, and supporting components such as pipelines and lines are mass-produced according to standardized units, which can be directly transported to the site for rapid assembly. At the same time, the power supply equipment of the project is integrated, further streamlining the construction process, compressing the construction time, and ensuring the rapid implementation of construction in all aspects. The Billion Dollar Ambition of Modular Technology

NTT Facilities plans to collaborate with industry operators in the 2028 fiscal year to fully implement this modular construction solution. This technology not only focuses on speeding up the construction period, but also takes into account multiple goals such as high-density heat dissipation, carbon neutrality construction, and regional coordinated development, building a new paradigm for modern data center construction. Modular construction is not a completely new concept. In the past, it was mostly used for small projects. Nowadays, with continuous technological upgrades, it has gradually adapted to the construction of large-scale computing power parks at the gigawatt level, becoming the mainstream development trend in the industry.Editor/Gong Ziwei
