Academician Chen Liquan, the 86 year old founder of solid-state ionics in China, has won the highest national science and technology award. This pioneer who has been deeply involved in the field of lithium batteries for half a century has opened up a key energy storage support chain for China's green battery intelligent computing industry with independent and controllable battery technology.
Building a fully chain independent lithium battery system
In the 1970s, Chen Liquan ventured into the completely blank field of solid-state ionization in China, building a research system from scratch and accumulating early core technologies in just a few years. In 1998, he led the construction of China's first fully independent lithium-ion battery pilot production line, and subsequently proposed a nano silicon negative electrode solution to achieve mass production of 10000 tons, completely breaking the monopoly of overseas patents. In 2014, China's lithium-ion battery production capacity jumped to the top in the world, completing a historic leap from following to leading.

Adapt to the collaborative needs of intelligent computing and green electricity
Chen Liquan, who is still in his eighties, is still tackling the forefront of the field. The team's proposed in-situ solid-state technology route aims to achieve mass production and installation of high-energy density solid-state power batteries by 2023. At the same time, it is forward-looking to layout the sodium ion battery track to meet the long-term energy storage needs of wind and solar power bases. At present, the supporting energy storage scale of domestic intelligent computing centers has exceeded 12GWh. The full range of energy storage technologies accumulated by Chen Liquan's team provides core support for the integrated system of source, grid, load and storage of green electricity direct supply intelligent computing, and helps accelerate the landing of the electric China global landscape.Editor/Cheng Liting
