In the busy Port Klang on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula, large ships shuttle back and forth, and containers pile up like mountains. However, for a long time, the abundant resources on the East Coast often require a complex road network to reach the deep-sea dock here. Today, this situation has reached a historic turning point. With the order of China Communications Construction Malaysia East Coast Railway Project Company, the construction of the 25 kilometer extension line - D section, connecting the Port Klang Customs Station Road to North and West ports, has officially started. This is not only an extension of the East Rail map, but also an important milestone for Malaysia to build a new pattern of sea land linkage.

Open the last kilometer of the land bridge
The D section that started construction this time is the finishing touch of the entire East Rail line. Previously, the construction of the first phase of the East Rail mainline was nearing completion and was gradually entering the testing and debugging phase. The launch of segment D, following the Malaysian government's approval of the revised project scope and signing of the seventh supplementary agreement in 2025, marks ECRL's true ability to connect the two oceans. After the completion of this railway, it will completely activate the "land bridge" effect connecting the ports on the east and west coasts, allowing goods to flow efficiently through the railway network on both sides without having to detour.

Dual track parallel efficiency improvement in freight transportation
In terms of engineering details, Section D adopts high standard design. The total length of the line is 25 kilometers, and a double track standard gauge railway will be laid. It is worth noting that this section of the route will run alongside the existing Malayan Railways meter gauge railway. This "dual track parallel" design not only optimizes the utilization of existing transportation resources, but also provides more possibilities for future freight dispatch. Although the standard gauge and meter gauge have different gauges, the synergy in planning will significantly enhance the overall freight capacity and operational efficiency of the ECRL and KTMB railway networks, injecting strong momentum into Malaysia's national railway freight transportation.keywords:Engineering infrastructure

Empowering the economy with China Unicom's dual ports
As the busiest port in Malaysia, Port Klang is divided into North Port and West Port. The strategic significance of the D section project lies in its ability to directly transport the blood of the East Railway, a major artery, to these two core port areas. In the past, the development of the East Coast Special Economic Zone was often limited by logistics bottlenecks. Nowadays, with the deepening of railway lines into the port area, the raw materials and finished products of the East Coast will be transported to the world at a faster speed. This not only optimizes the port collection and distribution system, but also lays a solid transportation foundation for Malaysia to build a regional logistics hub, indicating that a new era of coordinated economic development between the east and west coasts has arrived.Editor/Yang Meiling
