The former Silk Road relay station has now become a resting place for the digital camel caravan. When the spotlight of the national computing power conference shines at the foot of Pamir, Kashgar is no longer just a transit station for goods, but has transformed into a starting port for transporting computing power westward, allowing data to flow out of the country along the New Silk Road.

The National Computing Conference settled in Kashgar
The fourth China Computing Platform and Application Conference in 2026 will be held in Kashgar from July 22 to 25. The theme of the conference is "Computing empowering the Silk Road • digital driving the future - jointly building a new highland for the coordinated development of computing industry along the the Belt and Road", aiming to build a high-end exchange platform for politics, industry, education and research that serves national strategies, bases on the west and radiates to Central Asia.

The conference has four strategic values
The location of the National Computing Power Conference in Kashgar contains four clear strategic values behind it. First, it helped to implement the national strategy. The conference closely followed the East Data West Computing Project and the the Belt and Road Initiative, laid out computing nodes facing Central Asia, strengthened the function of the Silk Road digital hub, and built a national innovation demonstration area for the integration of east data and west computing based on Kashgar Aerospace Information Industrial Park. The second is to empower high-quality development in Kashgar, gather various high-end industrial resources, promote the synchronous upgrading of digital economy, computing power infrastructure, exhibition and cultural tourism, and fully unleash the policy advantages of China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone Kashgar Area and Kashgar Comprehensive Bonded Zone. Thirdly, we will deepen cooperation between universities and local governments in Xinjiang, rely on Peking University's high-quality scientific and educational resources to promote deep integration of industry, academia, and research, accelerate the implementation and transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements, and continue to support talent cultivation and industrial innovation in Kashgar. The fourth is to build a strong regional digital security barrier, improve supporting construction around the application of computing power and data security, and provide solid guarantees for the development of the local digital economy. Key words: counting from the east to the west, the Belt and Road, Xinjiang

Kashgar builds a hub for computing power on the Silk Road
This national level computing power event, coming from eastern cities to the forefront of Xinjiang's opening-up to the outside world, is a key step in extending the country's computing power layout westward. In the future, Kashgar will leverage this conference to gather computing industry resources, connect with the Central Asian market based on its unique location and policy advantages, create a core computing hub for the Silk Road, and promote the coordinated development of cross-border digital economy.Editor/Gong Ziwei
