The Russian Ukrainian front continues to exchange fire, and civilians in many areas have been attacked and injured. At a time when the conflict was escalating, Kazakh President Tokayev met with Putin in Omsk and put forward a new mediation strategy in the face of the current stalemate, which quickly attracted the attention of the international community.

Continuous fighting on the front line

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian military has attacked Black Sea ports such as Odessa, substations, and multiple cargo ships transporting military supplies, shooting down a large number of drones and guided bombs. On the same day, the Ukrainian army attacked the Zaporizhzhia and Belgorod Oblast regions. The Zaporizhzhia tourist camp was attacked, resulting in the death of 12 civilians, and multiple areas in Belgorod Oblast were attacked more than 90 times. The previous attacks in Kiev Oblast also resulted in casualties and extensive damage to civilian facilities. The Russian investigative committee has filed a case for the attack.

Kazakhstan peace proposal

During the talks, Tokayev expressed his position, stating that Russia and Ukraine are part of an inter state conflict and respecting Ukraine's local culture. He suggested that all parties freeze the conflict, restart a new version of the Istanbul negotiations, rely on the results of past consultations, and seek long-term peace under the guarantee of major powers. He admitted that continuing the war will only benefit external forces, and a large number of young people from both countries will lose their lives. The war should be ended as soon as possible. At the same time, the Kazakh side stated that they will not serve as a mediator in the conflict. Keywords: Russia-Ukraine conflict, peace initiative

Russia responds

Tokayev reiterated that Kazakhstan will continue to consolidate its strategic alliance with Russia. In response to this ceasefire proposal, the Kremlin spokesman responded. In combination with Kiev's current position, Russia believes that it is difficult to freeze the Russia-Ukraine conflict at this stage. The signal released by this meeting also allows the outside world to continue to observe the subsequent situation.Editor/Min Jing
