On July 26, 2026 local time, in the desert hinterland about 20 kilometers southwest of Rascarib in the Red Sea Province of Egypt, wind turbine foundations are being poured intensively, and concrete mixing plants are roaring. Egyptian Minister of Labor Hassan Raddad and his delegation walked into this construction site, carefully inspected the construction area, and had cordial exchanges with frontline workers. After listening to the project team's report on performance execution, labor protection, and safety production, Raddad nodded frequently and fully affirmed the on-site management of China Electric Power Construction.

This rising 200 MW wind power project is the third important chess piece that China Power Construction Corporation has set in the field of new energy in Egypt. From 500 MW to 1100 MW and now to 200 MW, the strong sea breeze in the Gulf of Suez is being converted into clean electricity by wind turbines to light up thousands of homes in Egypt.

A 200 MW green milestone

The Las Garib 200 MW wind power project adopts the EPC general contracting mode, with an actual designed installed capacity of 202.5 MW and an expected annual power generation of 800 million kilowatt hours, which can meet the annual electricity demand of about 311000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 436000 tons per year.

The project is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Rajaribu in the Red Sea Province and about 300 kilometers southeast of Cairo. The Gulf of Suez, with its unique wind resources, is becoming the forefront of Egypt's wind power development. According to Egypt's comprehensive sustainable energy strategy for 2035, the proportion of renewable energy installed capacity will reach 42% by 2035, with a total scale target of 61 gigawatts, including 43 gigawatts of solar energy and 18 gigawatts of wind energy. The Lascarib 200 MW wind power project is one of the key puzzles under this strategic layout.

Deep cultivation from 500 MW to 200 MW

The Lascarib project is not the first appearance of China Electric Power Construction in Egypt. As early as May 29, 2025, the Amunet 500 MW wind power project in the Gulf of Suez, located about 8 kilometers north of Ras Gharib, was officially put into commercial operation, installing 77 wind turbines with a single capacity of 6.5 MW, making it the largest wind power project completed in Egypt.

Subsequently, on December 26, 2024, China Electric Power Construction signed a contract for a 1100 MW Suez Bay wind power project, installing 138 wind turbines near Las Vegas and Las Shukiers. This project is the largest offshore wind power project of China Power Construction Overseas, the largest in Egypt, and the second largest on the African continent. It has entered the peak construction phase.

The total installed capacity of the three projects is 1800 megawatts, covering the entire industry chain from design, procurement, construction to commissioning, handover, and quality assurance. China Power Construction's wind power layout in Egypt has shifted from a single breakthrough point to a project cluster.

China Egypt energy cooperation enters a new stage

Egyptian Minister of Labor Raddad conducted a special inspection this time, focusing on the implementation of Egypt's new labor laws, labor protection measures, and safety production management system. Walid Barki, Governor of the Red Sea Province, accompanied the research. Radda emphasized that a standardized, orderly, safe, and healthy working environment is an important foundation for ensuring the timely and high-quality implementation and effectiveness of projects. The personal visit of ministerial level officials means that China Egypt energy cooperation has extended from the level of engineering progress to deeper levels such as labor protection and safety production. Three projects of China Power Construction Corporation have formed a dense layout in Ras Gharib and surrounding areas, and the former oil town is gradually becoming the forefront of Egypt's wind power development. From 500 MW to 1100 MW and then to 200 MW, China Power Construction's installed capacity of 1800 MW proves that the EPC and system integration capabilities of Chinese new energy enterprises are precisely matching Egypt's energy transformation needs. When the sea breeze of the Red Sea passes through the blades of wind turbines, it not only converts clean electricity, but also the system capability of China's new energy industry to go global.Editor/Gao Xue
