A millimeter level precision offshore construction is being carried out intensively in a certain sea area of the South China Sea with high winds and strong waves. With the signal of successful docking from the automatic correction guidance system, the world's largest offshore converter station, Haifengxin, constructed by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Group, has completed precise docking with the world's first ± 500 kV flexible DC submarine cable. This eight story steel structure building, weighing about 25000 tons, has been firmly positioned in the waves, marking China's full engineering capability in the field of deep-sea wind and power flexible DC transmission, and officially creating a Chinese solution for obtaining electricity from the deep sea.

Three world records break industry benchmarks

The Heart of Sea Breeze integrates the world's largest single unit capacity, the world's largest transmission capacity, and the world's highest flexible DC transmission voltage level, making it the super heart for large-scale and far-reaching sea breeze power engineering AC/DC conversion. It is 85.5 meters long, 82.5 meters wide, and 44 meters high, with a volume equivalent to 10 conventional booster stations, and the highest equipment integration density in the world. As the power transfer station of Qingzhou Five and Seven Wind Farms, its power transmission capacity reaches 2000 megawatts, and it can transmit 6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, breaking the world record for power transmission of similar products. The reserved helicopter platform and heavy-duty crane at the top make it the strongest compression pack for offshore electrical equipment.

Innovative technology achieves millimeter level precise docking

The project innovation adopts an onshore assembly, overall transportation, and floating installation scheme. During the onshore construction phase, 107 sections were synchronously loaded, and internal construction and equipment installation progressed simultaneously. In the floating installation process, a floating ship with dynamic positioning function is used to complete millimeter level precision docking of tens of thousands of tons of steel structure modules in wind and waves under the guidance of an automatic correction and guidance system and underwater robot monitoring. This process not only reduces construction difficulty, but also shortens the construction period by more than 10%, providing a replicable technical template for the installation of large-scale power equipment in the Far East Sea. Flexible DC technology empowers the development of green energy

Compared to traditional AC transmission methods, flexible DC transmission can significantly reduce energy loss. The Sea Breeze Heart adopts a ± 500 kV DC transmission mode, which collects, boosts, and converts the AC power generated by dispersed wind turbines into high-voltage DC power. It is transmitted to the land power grid through the DC submarine cable, an offshore power super highway, marking the entry of China's offshore wind power into the era of ultra-high voltage DC transmission. At present, offshore wind power is developing towards high power and deep sea direction. The deployment of the Sea Breeze Heart will add core equipment to the large-scale development of wind power in the deep and distant sea of the country, help promote the development of green energy in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and inject strong momentum into achieving the national dual carbon goals.Editor/Gao Xue
