For a long time, some areas of South Sudan have suffered from a shortage of drinking water resources and worrying water quality, which seriously restricts people's lives and regional development. On August 5, 2026, a brand new water supply project was officially handed over in Juba, with 47 water wells put into use, completely improving local drinking water conditions and injecting lasting momentum into grassroots livelihood development.

Project landing benefits the people

The aid to South Sudan for well drilling and water supply project was approved by the National International Development Cooperation Agency, and the handover ceremony was successfully held in Juba. Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang, South Sudan Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Ma Weiqi, Deputy Minister Sultan and other important guests attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Both sides jointly completed the signing of the project handover certificate. A total of 47 water wells have been built in the project, covering many areas in Central Equatoria and Lakes states, providing safe and clean drinking water sources for local residents, effectively reducing the risk of waterborne disease transmission, and ensuring the steady development of animal husbandry and community construction.

The implementation effectiveness of this livelihood project has been highly recognized by local officials and the public. Stable water supply not only improves residents' health conditions, but also drives the development of characteristic planting industries. Local residents rely on crop cultivation to increase their income, with an average daily income of 30000 to 50000 South Sudanese pounds, effectively ensuring family living and children's education expenses.
