In the summer of 2026, surveyors are completing the final round of terrain verification along the designated wind turbine locations in the fields of Mowelini Township, Yaxi County, Romania. The 288 MW wind power project led by Denmark's Eurowind Energy and supported by Blackstone Group has reached the final stage of permit approval. This Nordic capital project with a total investment of 450 million euros is becoming a vivid footnote to the accelerated landing of international capital in the Eastern European new energy market.
Large single machine technology landing in Eastern European market
The project plans to install 40 Vestas 7.2 MW wind turbines, including 30 V172 and 10 V162 models, with a maximum unit height of 252 meters. This configuration directly reflects the industry trend of onshore wind power evolving towards large blade turbine tower and large single unit capacity, which can significantly improve the power generation efficiency per unit land area and adapt to the wind resource endowment in northeastern Romania.

The supporting infrastructure will be synchronously promoted. The project will lay 32 kilometers of underground power cables, build 15 kilometers of roads and upgrade 17 kilometers of existing roads. At the same time, a 33/110kV substation and a 110/220kV booster station will be built. After completion, the entire project will be handed over to Transelectrica, the operator of Romania's national power grid, directly strengthening the transmission and distribution capacity of the local power grid. After the project is put into operation, the annual power generation can reach 630 million to 757 million kilowatt hours, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of 350000 to 420000 households. The designed operating life is as long as 35 years, and currently there is no supporting battery energy storage system.
Compliance requirements ensure long-term stable operation
During the approval process, the project strictly followed the requirements of local environmental regulations in Romania. For three wind turbines located less than 500 meters away from the urban area, additional evaluations were conducted on noise and shadow flicker effects. The nearest wind turbine is only 253 meters away from the boundary of Mowelini village. If the assessment result exceeds the legal threshold, the regulatory authorities will balance project development with residents' rights and interests by setting specific operating restrictions during certain periods and adjusting wind turbine locations.
As the largest single project landed by Eurowind after entering the Romanian market in 2011, this wind power plant will directly increase the total operating scale of the enterprise in Romania from 184 MW to 472 MW after it is put into operation. Combined with the previously laid out 60 MW energy storage facilities, it will further consolidate its asset weight in the Eastern European new energy market.
