Under the clear waves of the Johor Strait, an invisible link connecting the power grids of the two countries is quietly taking shape. When floating photovoltaic arrays are laid out on top of reservoirs and energy storage stations lie quietly in between, the energy cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia moves from transit trade to green power symbiosis, laying a key note for regional power grid interconnection.

The project has received regulatory approval

Shengke Public Utilities, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shengke Industries, has obtained a conditional permit from the Singapore Energy Market Authority to construct a 300 MW cross-border renewable energy project from Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore. The project has landed at the Linjiwu Reservoir Clean Energy Base in Johor, Malaysia, with a supporting construction scale of approximately 2.2 gigawatts of peak floating photovoltaics and a maximum battery energy storage power station of 4.3 gigawatt hours.

This project is jointly developed by Shengke, KPRJ Environmental Company, and Kuai Energy, a subsidiary of Johor People's Infrastructure Group. It is expected to be completed and put into use in 2029. By relying on existing and planned submarine transmission lines, cross-border bidirectional power transmission can be achieved, taking into account the electricity consumption of both Singapore and Malaysia, enhancing the interconnectivity of the Southeast Asian regional power grid, and promoting the large-scale integration of new energy into the regional power network.

Shengke stated that this cross-border green power project can provide power guarantee for high energy consuming industries such as data centers and artificial intelligence, supporting the expansion of industry scale.
