The Jiangnan Shipyard on Changxing Island in Shanghai has achieved the delivery of a heavyweight ship. A super large liquid ammonia transport ship with a world record breaking volume has been successfully completed and handed over to overseas shipowners. This independently developed high-end special vessel fills the gap in China's green ammonia fuel ocean transportation equipment and provides a mature and reliable Chinese construction solution for global zero carbon shipping.

Ship type hardcore parameters

The 93000 cubic meter ultra large liquid ammonia transport ship delivered this time is the Panda93A ship type, which is also the world's largest liquid ammonia transport ship of the same type and tonnage. It was iteratively developed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding based on the fourth generation ultra large liquefied gas transport ship. The vessel has a total length of 230 meters, a width of 36.6 meters, a depth of 22.5 meters, a structural draft of 13 meters, and is classified by the Lloyd's Register of Shipping in the United Kingdom. The R&D team has strengthened the liquid tank structure based on the physical characteristics of liquid ammonia, combined with self-developed low resistance linear and wave resistant patents, supplemented by ship energy-saving devices, taking into account the carrying capacity, navigation resistance, and port adaptability. The overall comprehensive performance has entered the international top ranks.

Green advanced design

The ship is equipped with LPG dual fuel engines and shaft mounted generators, which can reduce 20% of carbon dioxide emissions and 99% of sulfur oxide emissions during operation, successfully meeting the third stage standard of ship energy efficiency design index. During the design phase, a power system upgrade interface is reserved in advance, which can be directly transformed into an ammonia fuel power mode in the later stage, implementing the green and low-carbon research and development concept of the entire life cycle of ships, in line with the global trend of decarbonization transformation in the shipping industry, and building a core carrier for large-scale ocean transportation of green ammonia.

Efficient tackling and delivery

This ship is the first cooperation project between Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Singapore EPS Company. During the construction period, the project team restarted the gas refueling and three in one trial voyage mode, adopting hourly and refined construction control. After the completion of the piping system test of the liquid cargo system, the equipment debugging and tank inerting were synchronously promoted. It only took 12 days to complete the inspection and gas filling of the entire liquid cargo gas system, efficiently overcoming multiple technical difficulties in the construction of special liquid cargo ships and ensuring the timely naming and delivery of the first ship.
