The whistle tore through the morning mist in the Central Plains, and a steel camel caravan headed west again. When the sound of horse hooves on the ancient Silk Road settles into the clanging of the railway tracks, cross-border freight is trapped in uncertain waiting for a long time. Nowadays, a timetable spanning across Asia and Europe is rewriting the rules, giving thousands of miles of travel a high-speed rail like on-time commitment.

The train honked its horn and set off

At 9:40 am on August 10, 2026, the China Europe freight train, loaded with digital accessories, mechanical equipment, home appliances and other goods, departed from Zhengzhou International Land Port in Henan Province via Kaikai District. The train passes through Kazakhstan and terminates in Hamburg, Germany.

A thousand years ago, the ancient Silk Road established a trade and cultural link between the East and the West. In 2013, the first direct freight train from central China to Europe departed from Zhengzhou, and the China Europe freight train transformed into a steel camel caravan, sounding a new era camel bell belonging to the Central Plains. Over the past decade, freight trains have opened up new channels for Asia Europe freight transportation. However, due to cross-border scheduling and loading operations, the operating time cannot be fixed, the time fluctuates greatly, and there are many ineffective waiting times, which hinder cross-border trade transportation. On November 18, 2025, the first fully scheduled China Europe freight train from Zhengzhou to Hamburg, Germany was launched, marking an iteration and upgrade of the China Europe freight train.

Interpretation of Timetable Trains

What is the full timetable for the China Europe freight train? Du Zhigang, Deputy General Manager of Logistics Group of Zhongyu Port Group, introduced that the train operates based on the train number, route, schedule, and time determined through negotiations with multiple countries along the railway line, connecting the cross-border unified timetable and achieving on-time transportation like high-speed rail.

This train enjoys the privilege of priority grouping, priority hanging, and priority departure, and the waiting time for grouping and changing is compressed. This fixed-point, fixed route, and timed passenger train operation mode significantly reduces ineffective stops on the way and shortens the overall travel time by more than 30% compared to ordinary trains. The Zhengzhou to Hamburg route in Germany has been reduced from 15 days to 11 days.

Empowering Foreign Trade with Services

The supporting facilities for the China Europe freight train have been continuously improved throughout the entire process, with the establishment of a multilingual professional operation team and the deployment of cross time zone shift personnel. Real time communication with overseas partners has been achieved 24/7 to quickly handle various emergencies and reduce the risk of delays. Stable and controllable transportation capacity has gained market recognition. The person in charge of a freight forwarding company in Henan stated that German bicycle manufacturers have made use of this train to save on high air freight costs, while also ensuring delivery time and transportation safety, making it an important choice for foreign-related business. At present, this kind of train runs once a week in Zhengzhou, with goods covering clothing, mechanical accessories, e-commerce packages, etc., which can directly reach Malashevich, Poland, Hamburg, Germany, and strongly support cross-border trade exchanges along the the Belt and Road.Editor/Gong Ziwei
