A heavyweight energy investment event in Central South Africa has successfully concluded, opening up a cooperation channel for South Africa's massive energy upgrade plan. South Africa has opened up a blue ocean of over 2.2 trillion rand in energy investment, relying on a new resource development plan to expand power infrastructure, and China Power Construction, which deeply cultivates the local market, continues to land high-quality projects, promoting bilateral energy cooperation to achieve both quality and efficiency.

Wide market space
On August 3-4, 2026, the South African China Electricity and Energy Investment Conference was held at POWERCHINA headquarters, with over 260 representatives from government, enterprises, financial institutions, and industries from both countries attending to exchange and connect on South Africa's 2025 comprehensive resource plan. According to the long-term plan, South Africa will add 105 gigawatts of power generation capacity and build 14500 kilometers of transmission lines by 2039, with an overall investment scale exceeding 2.2 trillion rand. In the next decade, the investment demand for power transmission will reach 440 billion rand, and the energy layout covers multiple fields such as photovoltaics, wind power, energy storage, natural gas, and nuclear power. Power generation, transmission, energy storage, and equipment manufacturing have become the core layout tracks for Chinese enterprises.

Chinese enterprises deeply cultivate and implement
POWERCHINA entered the South African market in 2008 and has established a comprehensive energy business system. Currently, the total installed capacity of wind power, photovoltaic, and solar thermal projects completed or under construction has reached 1.9 gigawatts, and the capacity of energy storage projects under construction is 1.9 gigawatt hours. The 100 MW Redstone solar thermal project under its umbrella is the largest tower type molten salt solar thermal power station in South Africa. The Aoya hybrid energy project integrates wind, solar, and energy storage resources, effectively enhancing the stability of the local power system. At the same time, the company is laying out in the field of water supply. The annual water supply of Phase 2A of the Mokolo Crocodile River Water Supply Project can reach 75 million cubic meters, fully covering local power stations, mining areas, and domestic water use. Relying on localized operation models, enterprises drive local development through job supply, skills training, and school enterprise cooperation, creating thousands of job opportunities. The current energy cooperation between China and South Africa has moved away from a single project contracting model and shifted towards long-term coordinated development of the entire industry chain, providing solid support for South Africa's energy transformation.Editor/Min Jing
