The towns along the banks of the Zambezi River have long been plagued by water shortages, with prominent shortcomings in local water supply facilities. With the signing of the project, PowerChina MCCG has officially opened the door to the Namibian market. This livelihood water supply project will improve local production and domestic water use, and also add an important pivot for the company's business layout in Southwest Africa, accumulating valuable practice for Chinese enterprises to deeply cultivate infrastructure in Africa.

Breaking the ice in the market

On August 13, 2026, PowerChina MCCG signed a contract with Namibian Water Company at their headquarters, and the third phase of the Katima Mulilongoma Water Supply Plan was officially launched. This is also PowerChina MCCG's first commercial project in Namibia, achieving zero breakthrough in the country's market. Abraham Nehemiah, CEO of Namibian Water Company, Teoveles Ngitila, Executive Director and Accounting Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources and Land Reform, and Wang Yanli, Chairman of PowerChina MCCG, attended the signing ceremony together.

After completion, the project will become a key livelihood infrastructure in the Zambezi region of northeastern Namibia, effectively enhancing regional water supply capacity and improving residents' living and agricultural water conditions. This signing extends PowerChina MCCG's business map in southern Africa from Angola, Mozambique to Namibia. PowerChina MCCG Southwest Africa Company's business covers multiple countries including Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, and South Africa. Its business includes water conservancy, hydropower, highway engineering, municipal public agriculture, irrigation, and airport construction. This project further consolidates the foundation of regional water business.

Livelihood Water Supply Project

Katimamulilo is located on the banks of the Zambezi River and is an important town in northeastern Namibia. The local water supply infrastructure has long been weak. The third phase of the Katima Mulilongoma water supply plan is an important component of Namibia's water supply support program, funded by the African Development Bank, and covers areas such as Ngoma Kabbe Lusee. The four phase project, which combines three phases of planning, will systematically solve the water shortage problem in the Zambezi region. The Namibian Water Company fully recognizes the municipal performance capabilities of Electric Power Construction and hopes to promote more cooperation in various fields through this project. Enlightenment from Overseas Development

Namibia is a water scarce country in southern Africa, with a huge gap in water infrastructure. Livelihood water projects have become an effective path for Chinese enterprises to enter the local market, and are a potential incremental market for water conservancy and municipal pipeline enterprises. The project relies on financing from the African Development Bank, with standardized bidding processes and reliable payment guarantees. PowerChina MCCG relies on the performance and compliance capabilities accumulated from multilateral financial institution projects, becoming a core advantage in exploring overseas markets.

With the gradual progress of the project, China's water infrastructure strength will play a greater role in southern Africa, and a new chapter of overseas construction by Chinese enterprises is slowly unfolding.Editor/Min Jing
