In the fishery photovoltaic complementary power station in Gongdao Town, Hanjiang District, Yangzhou, operation and maintenance personnel are inspecting the operation status of photovoltaic equipment one by one. This blue photovoltaic panel installed on the water surface is a microcosm of Jiangsu's photovoltaic industry that has been deeply cultivated for many years.
As of the end of July 2026, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in Jiangsu has officially exceeded 100 million kilowatts, ranking as the largest power source in the province with a scale of 100.08 million kilowatts, accounting for over 38% of the total installed capacity of electricity in the province, and becoming the first province in China to have a photovoltaic installed capacity exceeding 100 million kilowatts.

Distributed photovoltaics become the core pillar of growth
Behind Jiangsu's photovoltaic installed capacity exceeding 100 million, distributed photovoltaics have contributed nearly 70% of the total volume, ranking first in the country in terms of scale. Relying on the massive rooftop resources of industrial park buildings, public buildings, and rural residences, Jiangsu has embarked on a differentiated path of land-based distribution as the main centralized supplement to maritime characteristic development. In economically developed provinces with scarce land resources, this development model that does not require additional occupation of high-quality arable land allows photovoltaics to penetrate into various scenarios of urban and rural production and life, forming a highly recognizable distributed photovoltaic development pattern.
Realize historic switching of power structure
Coal power, which had long occupied the largest power source in Jiangsu, has been officially replaced by photovoltaics. This landmark switch signifies that Jiangsu's energy structure transformation has crossed a critical juncture. New energy is no longer a supplementary power source, but a core force supporting the electricity demand of the whole province. Combined with the continuous improvement of the distribution network carrying capacity upgrade project within the province, Jiangsu's 35.99GW of distributed photovoltaic open capacity will reserve sufficient growth space for the subsequent photovoltaic industry. Keywords: distributed photovoltaics, new energy projects

From sporadic pilot projects to an installed capacity of over 100 million, Jiangsu has developed a path of coordinated coexistence between an economically prosperous province and the development of new energy through years of practice. This breakthrough also provides a replicable and scalable mature sample for the energy transformation of major provinces along the eastern coast of China.Editor/Cheng Liting
