The Jiugongshan Pumped Storage Power Station in Weixian County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, has successively released bidding plans for investment entities and comparison notices for bidding agencies. This billion dollar project with a total investment of 11.1 billion yuan and an installed capacity of 1.6 million kilowatts has officially entered the practical stage of publicly selecting investment entities from the early preparation stage. As a key energy project within the national plan, its implementation will solve the consumption problem of Zhangjiakou's tens of millions level new energy base and supplement the key energy storage support link.

The scale of regional pumped storage clusters leads the province

As early as 2024, a total of 12 pumped storage projects in Hebei Province were included in the approval list of the National Energy Administration, with Zhangjiakou occupying 4 seats, ranking first in both project quantity and total installed capacity in the province. The 1.6 million kilowatt project of Jiugongshan in Weixian County is coordinated with the 1.2 million kilowatt projects of Baihe in Chicheng, Changyukou in Chongli, and Xipingshan in Huai'an. The total installed capacity of the four power stations is 4.4 million kilowatts, with a total planned investment of 32.525 billion yuan.

At present, the 1.4 million kilowatt pumped storage project in Shangyi is progressing in an orderly manner, and the other four large-scale pumped storage power stations are all included in the key construction plan of Hebei Province. Zhangjiakou is forming one of the largest pumped storage energy industry clusters with the highest density in China.

The pace of project implementation continues to accelerate

The Jiugongshan Pumped Storage Power Station in Weixian is located in Baishu Township, Weixian County, only 240 kilometers away from Beijing. The upper reservoir is located at the beginning of Laoyemiao Lianggou, and the lower reservoir is located at the mouth of Songzhikou Yugou in Baishu Township. The project will pass the technical review of the pre feasibility study report in 2023, complete the review of the three major thematic reports in 2025, and officially enter the feasibility study stage. It is expected that the investment subject bidding announcement will be publicly released in September 2026. After the completion of this power station, it will significantly alleviate the long-standing problem of wind and solar power curtailment in Zhangjiakou, providing stable peak shaving and energy storage support for local consumption of green electricity and long-distance transmission across regions.

The pace of progress of the Jiugongshan Pumped Storage Power Station in Weixian, from preliminary technical review to entering practical bidding, is a microcosm of Zhangjiakou's energy transformation.
