Recently, Tanzania's iconic hydropower project has been officially put into operation, injecting strong momentum into local development. This largest hydroelectric power station in Tanzania was jointly built by two key Chinese enterprises, with full participation in the entire process from engineering infrastructure to equipment installation. The implementation of the project has completely reversed the local power shortage situation, benefiting people's livelihoods and empowering industries, becoming a remarkable achievement of China Tanzania cooperation.

Project landing benefits the people
On August 22, 2026, the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Station was officially put into operation, and Tanzanian President Hassan attended the commissioning ceremony and announced the project's operation. The power generation capacity of this power station can cover nearly half of Tanzania's national electricity demand, completely alleviating the long-term power shortage problem in the area. A stable and sufficient power supply not only improves local public services and residents' lives, but also attracts commercial investment, promotes industrial upgrading, effectively drives employment and income growth, and comprehensively boosts national economic vitality. Deeply cultivate and empower the local community
This project is jointly constructed by POWERCHINA and DEC, with each team responsible for completing the core construction tasks. China Power Construction is responsible for the main project, overall design, and supporting facility construction of the power station, while Dongfang Electric provides a complete set of core equipment such as generator sets and completes equipment installation and commissioning work. During the construction period, China has created a total of 14000 job opportunities for the local area and assisted thousands of local employees in acquiring professional skills. Industry insiders say that the project not only solidifies Tanzania's energy foundation, but also enhances its position in the East African energy market, laying a solid energy support for regional coordinated development.Editor/Min Jing
