Standing at the critical node of Henan's new energy installed capacity exceeding 80 million kilowatts by 2026, the gap in flexible regulation capability of the central power grid is continuously widening. The official start of the main project of Huadian Lingbao Pumped Storage Power Station has buried a giant power charging bank with a capacity of over one million kilowatts for this rapidly expanding new power system.

Million kilowatt level energy storage landing

Huadian Lingbao Pumped Storage Power Station is a key project in the 14th Five Year Plan for the medium and long-term development of pumped storage in China. It is located in Zhuyang Town, Lingbao, Sanmenxia and is led by Huadian International for investment and construction. The total installed capacity is 1.2 million kilowatts, equipped with four 300000 kilowatt single-stage vertical mixed flow reversible units. It is planned to be fully operational by 2030.

At present, the total installed capacity of pumped storage projects under construction in Henan has exceeded 6 million kilowatts, and the Lingbao project is one of the benchmark projects with the highest technical standards among this batch of projects. The project directly faces the common industry challenges such as the construction of fractured surrounding rock tunnels, the construction of weak foundation dams, and flexible anti-seepage systems. It synchronously builds a full chain digital control platform, making every construction process and engineering parameter traceable throughout the process, completely avoiding the construction quality hazards of traditional large-scale hydropower projects.

Annual consumption of 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity

Unlike ordinary energy storage projects, this power station will become the core regulation center of Henan power grid after its operation, covering six core functions: peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase regulation, and emergency backup. The annual power generation can reach 1.589 billion kilowatt hours, absorbing surplus wind and solar power from the power grid during periods of low electricity consumption. The additional consumption of new energy electricity exceeds 2.1 billion kilowatt hours per year, which is equivalent to a direct reduction of 418000 tons of standard coal consumption per year.
