In the Pilbara region on the northwest coast of Australia, a steel behemoth equivalent to ten stories high crossed the ocean and finally arrived at its destination. This 4500 ton behemoth is the last and heaviest core module of Woodside's $12.5 billion Scarborough Energy project. Its arrival marks a successful conclusion to the four-year planning, construction, and transportation work, and also signifies a decisive step towards the goal of producing the first batch of LNG cargo in the fourth quarter of 2026 for this highly anticipated liquefied natural gas project.

Module transportation successfully concluded
This ten story module, from front-end engineering design to final delivery, embodies the wisdom and sweat of teams from multiple countries around the world. Its design work was completed in the UK, followed by a two-year construction period in Thailand. In order to safely transport this behemoth to the Kalassa site in Western Australia, the team traveled nearly 2500 nautical miles. The transportation route is not smooth. Construction manager Fighara Grisen revealed that every part of the route, from bridges and drainage systems to various pipeline facilities, has been analyzed in detail to ensure that the transportation path does not conflict with any facilities along the way. Such a massive module is considered one of the heaviest modules sent to the Pilbara region, and its smooth installation can be regarded as a huge team collaboration achievement.

The renovation project is coming to an end
The arrival of this module marks the final sprint stage of the Train 1 facility renovation project for Pluto LNG, a key component of the Scarborough Energy Project. As of the end of the second quarter of 2026, the entire project progress has been completed by 98%, and the first batch of LNG shipments is just around the corner. With this final module in place, the focus of on-site work has quickly shifted to installation, connection, and integration with Pluto Train 1. In the past few months, the Scarborough floating production facility has completed the connection of umbilical cables and all subsea risers after arriving in Australia, and has begun the debugging of upper modules. This series of compact and orderly progress has laid a solid foundation for the smooth production of the project in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Energy supply benefits all parties
The launch of this project will have a profound impact on the energy landscape of Western Australia and even the entire Asia Pacific region. Woodside emphasized that the energy produced by the Scarborough project is sufficient to power over 8.5 million households for more than 30 years, which will greatly enhance the energy security level of the region. Looking back at the entire process, the project delivered three fully integrated modules, including thousands of tons of structural steel, a large number of pipelines, and complex equipment. Behind this is the joint efforts of engineering, procurement, and construction management contractors, approximately 2000 on-site workers, 10 Woodside employees, and local Australian employees.
