The majestic Three Gorges opens a new chapter, with a long underground dragon quietly crossing mountains and valleys. As the first transportation tunnel of the Three Gorges Water Transport New Channel Supporting Project, the tunnel of Highway 6 has been fully opened, laying a solid transportation lifeline for the subsequent main project and marking a crucial step forward in this century long project.

The tunnel was successfully connected and landed

On September 3, 2026, the No. 6 highway tunnel of the Three Gorges Water Transport New Channel supporting project was fully connected. This tunnel is the first successfully connected transportation tunnel in the supporting project of the Three Gorges Water Transport New Channel, providing a solid transportation and traffic guarantee for the main project.

The total length of Highway 6 is 1.269 kilometers, with a width of 12 meters and a designed driving speed of 40 kilometers per hour. It is a first-class road within the water conservancy and hydropower engineering site. The tunnel section is 945.6 meters long and adopts a single tunnel two-way traffic design, which is the core control project of the entire No. 6 highway. After the tunnel is completed, the project will comprehensively promote subsequent construction such as road paving, mechanical and electrical installation, and fire protection facility layout, and is expected to be open to traffic in the short term.

Construction of traffic empowerment project

According to the project management personnel of the Three Gorges New Channel Company, Highway 6 is the core transportation channel from the Three Gorges Hub New Channel to the Fengxianggou No. 2 Waste Disposal Site, mainly responsible for the excavation and waste transportation of the upstream approach channel, the occupied section downstream, and the main area of the ship lock.

After the official opening of the highway, it will greatly alleviate the traffic pressure of existing waste transportation roads, thoroughly improve the current situation of mixed traffic between construction vehicles and social vehicles, effectively avoid road traffic safety hazards, and improve the efficiency and safety of construction transportation.

Intelligent, green and efficient construction

In response to the complex geological structure and high construction difficulty of the tunnel mountain, the construction team adopts intelligent construction equipment and green construction technology throughout the process to ensure the quality and safety of the project in all aspects. Keywords: Three Gorges New Channel, transportation guarantee, green construction

The project participants introduced that the construction site is equipped with a tunnel intelligent control system, which can accurately locate the workers inside the tunnel and monitor environmental indicators such as dust and harmful gases in real time; The intelligent secondary lining trolley can complete intelligent operations such as automatic pouring, data monitoring, and safety warning; Mechanized fabric hanging trolley replaces manual operation, significantly saving labor costs and improving construction efficiency. At the same time, the construction wastewater is recycled after multi-stage sedimentation treatment, with a water resource recycling rate of over 90%, adhering to the standards of green engineering construction.Editor/Gong Ziwei
