A new trend has emerged in Serbia's domestic political arena, with the Prime Minister proposing to dissolve the parliament and initiate early election procedures. The ruling party has simultaneously finalized its candidates, ushering in a new change in the local political landscape.

On September 7, 2026, Serbian Prime Minister Machut proposed to dissolve the National Assembly and promote early parliamentary elections after a special government meeting, in response to public demands and to dispel doubts at the social level. According to the country's constitution, the president may adopt the government's proposal to dissolve parliament and set an election date.

The Serbian Progressive Party has nominated Vu č i ć as the leader of the parliamentary election list and candidate for Prime Minister. Vu č i ć will end his presidential term and participate in the election. The election date is expected to be announced to the public no later than the morning of September 10, 2026.
