On September 4, 2026, the second China Russia Forum kicked off in Khabarovsk, Russia. At the sub session on the theme of China Russia New Space: Space Technology for the Benefit of Humanity, representatives from the aerospace communities of the two countries had in-depth exchanges on topics such as lunar exploration projects, Earth remote sensing data, and cross-border river ecological monitoring. Aerospace technology is becoming a strategic technology field with far-reaching impact, and the cooperation between China and Russia in space exploration is moving from a framework to a concrete one

Collaborative Promotion of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration

China and Russia have signed four scientific cooperation agreements, covering the construction of an international lunar research station, coordination of lunar exploration missions, establishment of a joint data center, and analysis of extraterrestrial soil samples. The two countries are jointly promoting the construction of lunar and deep space exploration data centers. The Energy Rocket Space Company, a subsidiary of the Russian National Space Corporation, has proposed exploring the implementation of a joint crew crossover flight plan, which would involve Russian astronauts entering the Chinese space station and Chinese astronauts entering the Russian space station under construction. At the same time, it is suggested to achieve mutual backup of launch vehicles during the launch phase and continue to deepen cooperation in lunar and deep space exploration.

Remote sensing data sharing and ecological monitoring

China and Russia are actively promoting the joint processing and utilization of spacecraft observation information from both countries, with a focus on upgrading existing processing methods and algorithms, promoting data format standardization, and improving the application system of distributed Earth remote sensing data. Both parties will develop a specialized remote sensing monitoring information system for specific spacecraft capabilities. In response to the needs of the Far East region, both sides have discussed monitoring natural disasters such as forest fires, floods, tsunamis, atmospheric and radiation environment monitoring, and hyperspectral remote sensing imaging. Among them, joint hydrological monitoring of the Amur River (Heilongjiang), Ussuri River, and Songhua River basins has become a key focus. Talent cultivation and the potential of Far East Aerospace Center

The practice of incorporating aerospace themes into primary and secondary school curricula as well as federal education programs in the Khabarovsk Krai has been recognized by experts. The attendees believe that Khabarovsk has the potential and conditions to become an important center for Russian space activities, and is not inferior to other traditional space cities in terms of infrastructure and industrial support. The forum brings together representatives from scientific research institutions, educational institutions, local governments, and the business community, focusing on the theme of joint consultation, construction, and cooperation in the development of the Great Ussuri Island (Heixiazi Island). It has more than 40 thematic sections, with about 4000 representatives from 21 regions of Russia and 14 provinces of China attending. China Russia space cooperation is advancing from top-level agreements to industrial implementation and talent cultivation in depth.Editor/Gao Xue
