The economies in the Asia Pacific region urgently need to build a dialogue platform to gather consensus. The 72nd meeting of the APEC Energy Working Group was successfully held in Beijing, where all parties gathered to exchange energy policies and discuss regional sustainable energy development paths.

Focus on cooperation direction

On September 8, 2026, the 72nd meeting of the APEC Energy Working Group was held in Beijing. Wang Jianbo, Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The Asia Pacific region is the core area for global energy production and consumption, and currently faces multiple pressures for energy security, economic development, and green transformation. As the host of this year's APEC, China has focused on the theme of building an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative Asia Pacific energy community, and has identified three directions of high-quality energy universal services, artificial intelligence, and energy Asia Pacific energy collaboration and governance. It has held seminars and capacity training activities in multiple places such as Nanchang, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, and Dalian, continuously promoting exchanges and mutual learning among economies, and laying a solid foundation for cooperation for this conference.

Consolidate multilateral consensus

Wang Jianbo stated that APEC cooperation relies on the joint participation of all economies. China adheres to openness and inclusiveness, and creates a multilateral exchange platform through a series of energy activities to promote experience sharing. He hopes that all parties can seek common ground while reserving differences and exchange views, and jointly address the new issues brought about by energy reform. This meeting is an important mechanism meeting before the 16th APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting, with about 200 representatives attending, including observers from member economies of the APEC Secretariat and relevant international organizations. At the meeting, each economy introduced its own energy development situation, listened to the work reports of its subordinate institutions, reviewed the draft outcome document of the Energy Ministers' Meeting, and accumulated strength for practical cooperation in the Asia Pacific energy field in the future.Editor/Min Jing
