At the signing site next to the Giza Pyramid in Cairo, the latest large-scale data center project in Egypt has officially surfaced. Vodafone Egypt, together with Elsevier Electric and Cassava Technologies, is jointly promoting the Africa Data Centers Egypt project. In the first half of 2026, the demand for AI computing power in Egypt surged by 132% year-on-year. Coupled with the accelerated development of the national data center strategy, this computing power hub with a total planned investment of 1 billion US dollars is becoming a new core entry point for Chinese enterprises to enter the North African digital infrastructure market.

Priority release of orders for 20 MW starting capacity
The project will have a starting capacity of 20 megawatts in the first three years, and is expected to attract approximately $200 million in foreign direct investment in the first phase. After expanding to 200 megawatts in the future, the total investment will reach $1 billion. Electrical equipment, refrigeration systems, and electromechanical engineering enterprises can prioritize preparing adaptation plans for the first 20 MW project, without the need to include long-term expansion needs in recent orders in advance.
By relying on the local engineering execution capabilities of Erceweidi Electric, external suppliers can identify the supplementary links of their own capabilities and smoothly enter the segmented procurement chain of the existing cooperation system.
Clear implementation of sovereign AI computing power roadmap
The AI computing power service project, which is being promoted synchronously, will use NVIDIA technology to provide GPU as a service, realizing full process data hosting and processing within Egypt, and creating a locally controllable sovereign AI infrastructure. In 2025, Cassava announced that Egypt will be included in the African AI infrastructure expansion plan, and with the existing layout of Huawei Cloud Cairo node, the Egyptian computing power market is forming a multi-path parallel development pattern. The delivery of data center projects and long-term computing power operations will provide differentiated participation windows for different types of overseas Chinese enterprises. From the signing table at the foot of the pyramid to the upcoming computing power construction site, the pace of digital infrastructure construction in Egypt is continuously accelerating. For Chinese enterprises preparing to enter the market, understanding the first stage of procurement division and supplier access rules is the most practical first step to open up the North African data center market.Editor/Cheng Liting
