The photovoltaic array in the outskirts of Ankara continues to output power in the sun, and the new high-voltage transmission tower in the distance is rapidly extending. Türkiye's energy transformation in 2035 is slowly starting with the investment plan of hundreds of billions of dollars.

The latest Energy Industry Report 2026 clearly states that Türkiye's total financing demand in the energy sector will reach 200 billion US dollars by 2035. This huge road map covering scenery, nuclear power, power grid and energy storage is pushing Türkiye to the fastest growing new energy track in Europe.

In the first half of 2026, Türkiye's new photovoltaic installed capacity increased by 32% year on year, the proportion of renewable energy power generation in the country has exceeded 45%, and the actual landing speed of energy transformation is continuing to exceed market expectations.

Synchronous expansion of wind, solar and nuclear power plants

According to the plan, the total installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic in Türkiye will reach 120GW in 2035, quadrupling the current scale of about 30GW. In the future, 8 to 9GW of wind power installations will be added annually, including 48GW of wind power target and 5GW of offshore wind power planning.

The construction of four 1200MW units in Akuyu, a nuclear power sector, is underway. The national nuclear power installed capacity target is 7.2GW by 2035, and further increased to 20GW by 2050. New large-scale nuclear power projects in Sinop and Thrace have also been included in the promotion list. Against the backdrop of continuously increasing electricity demand, the national electricity consumption is expected to reach 510 terawatt hours by 2035, an increase of over 40% compared to 2025. A diversified energy supply system will become the core chassis supporting electricity growth.

$80 billion upgrade to grid energy storage

The total investment of 80 billion US dollars will be fully invested in the modernization of the power grid and the construction of system flexibility, covering core directions such as the expansion of high-voltage transmission networks and the improvement of cross regional power exchange capabilities. As of early 2026, 372 photovoltaic projects and 252 wind power projects with supporting energy storage have entered the pre licensing stage of the energy storage track, corresponding to a total energy storage scale of over 34GWh. Under the high growth scenario, the number of electric vehicles in Türkiye will reach 7 million in 2035, and the charging infrastructure and distribution network expansion will also be promoted synchronously, providing a foundation for the stable operation of the entire energy system. Keywords: energy infrastructure, energy strategy

From the rapid growth of power demand to the formation of a diversified energy structure, the $200 billion investment list is not only a financing plan, but also a clear action route for Türkiye to anchor the net zero goal in 2053, which will also inject new growth impetus into the energy transformation at the junction of Asia and Europe.Editor/Cheng Liting
