Recently, China Energy Engineering International Group, Southwest Electric Power Design Institute of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, and China Energy Engineering Construction Group successfully signed the EPC contract for the Midert Phase I Photovoltaic Energy Storage Project in Morocco as a consortium. The project is located in the Midert region of Morocco, mainly constructing a 630 megawatt photovoltaic power station and a 1300 megawatt hour electrochemical energy storage system. The scope of the project includes survey and design, equipment supply, construction and installation, commissioning, and related services. After completion, the project will become the largest single solar energy storage project in Africa.

630 MW photovoltaic with 1300 MWh energy storage

The core of the project is the construction of approximately 630 MW photovoltaic power plants and 1300 MWh electrochemical energy storage systems. As an important project in Morocco's energy transformation, large-scale energy storage systems will play a key role in peak shaving, frequency regulation, and stable new energy output, effectively enhancing the flexible regulation capability and power supply reliability of the local power system, promoting the large-scale development and efficient consumption of renewable energy such as photovoltaics. This scale is the first of its kind in the field of optical storage in Africa, marking another large-scale landing of China's integrated optical storage solution in overseas markets.

Assist Morocco in achieving its 2030 goals

Morocco is accelerating its energy transition, with the goal of renewable energy accounting for 52% of the country's total electricity installed capacity by 2030. According to the Economic and Commercial Department of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco on August 14, 2026, renewable energy in Morocco currently accounts for 46.1% of the country's total installed electricity. The signing of the Midert solar storage project will provide strong support for Morocco to achieve this goal and inject new momentum into the deep cooperation between China and Morocco in the field of clean energy. China Energy Engineering Corporation deeply cultivates the African new energy market

This signing is another important layout of China Energy Construction in the African new energy market. From photovoltaic power stations to energy storage systems, from survey and design to construction and commissioning, China Energy Engineering Corporation outputs full industry chain service capabilities in the form of a consortium. As African countries accelerate their energy transition, integrated solar and energy storage projects are becoming an important track for Chinese enterprises to go global. After the completion of the Midert project, it will not only enhance the flexibility and reliability of Morocco's power system, but also set a benchmark for the promotion of China's solar energy storage technology and standards in Africa.Editor/Gao Xue
