Recently, the announcement of the investor bidding for the renovation and expansion project of G50 Shanghai Chongqing Expressway Yichang Yangtze River Highway Bridge (HYYCDQTZR-1 section) has been officially released. This project has been included in the Ministry of Transport's "15th Five Year Plan for Highway Development" and "Rolling Project Library for Highway and Water Transport in the Three Year Period from 2025 to 2027". It will be constructed using an operational highway model and organized for public bidding by the Yichang Transportation Bureau as the project implementation agency. The estimated investment for the project is about 3.67 billion yuan.

Project Overview

This project starts from Gaojiadian hub of Shanghai Chongqing Expressway and ends at Qiaonan hub of Shanghai Chongqing Expressway, with a total length of about 6 kilometers. It is planned to be constructed according to the standard of a two-way eight lane expressway with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a roadbed width of 41.5 meters. The Yangtze River Bridge adopts a separated construction method, and a new Yangtze River Bridge of the same bridge type and main span will be built downstream of the existing bridge. The existing bridge will be inspected, repaired for defects, and structurally reinforced. After completion, the two bridges will be divided into sections for one-way traffic. The wiring project adopts a double-sided widening method for expansion, synchronously renovating and utilizing the Gaojiadian and Qiaonan hubs, building a new Qiaobei interchange, improving the utilization of existing service areas, and selecting a new maintenance work area.

Existing project background

The existing project also starts from Gaojiadian hub and ends at Qiaonan hub, with a total length of 6.075 kilometers. It is a two-way four lane expressway, and the main bridge is a steel box girder suspension bridge with a span of 960 meters. The entire line has two hub interchanges and two ground interchanges. The existing project has been charging stations since September 1, 2001, and the toll deadline has been extended until December 18, 2031. It is now operated by Yichang Yangtze River Bridge Construction and Operation Group Co., Ltd.

Collaboration mode

The project is constructed using an operational highway model. The winning bidder must establish a project company in accordance with the law, responsible for the entire process of project planning, fund raising, construction implementation, operation management, debt repayment, asset management, and compensation for the original operating unit's toll rights. The project will operate independently and bear its own profits and losses. After the toll period stipulated in the concession agreement expires, the highway and ancillary facilities will be transferred in accordance with the law. The project has a planned duration of 1460 calendar days and is scheduled to start construction in June 2027. The estimated contract price is 3.67 billion yuan.
