Since 2026, the development of China's hydrogen energy industry has accelerated comprehensively. From production and supply to transportation and storage, and then to scenario applications, hydrogen energy is becoming an important force in promoting China's energy green and low-carbon transformation.
Not long ago, China launched a pilot program for comprehensive hydrogen energy application in five urban clusters, including the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. With diverse scenarios such as fuel cell vehicles as the driving force, the supply capacity of hydrogen energy was further enhanced. In Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, this heavy truck can run over 500 kilometers at once when filled with 37 kilograms of hydrogen gas.
Currently, China's hydrogen energy production capacity accounts for over half of the global total; The annual production of hydrogen in China exceeds 39 million tons, ranking first in the world. The outline of the 15th Five Year Plan includes hydrogen energy for the first time in the non fossil energy supply system. The western region relies on abundant local wind and solar resources to produce hydrogen by electrolyzing water with green electricity. At present, the first cross provincial hydrogen transmission pipeline in China from Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia to Yanshan Petrochemical in Beijing is being intensively constructed. As of now, the total length of hydrogen transmission pipelines built or planned for construction in China has exceeded 13000 kilometers.
