A new railway is about to break ground in the vast desert area of southern Algeria. CCECC, in collaboration with local enterprises, has successfully won the bid for the Galdaye El Menea railway project, which will pave a new transportation channel on the edge of the Sahara and connect the southern resource transportation network.

Winning the bid locks in the contract

The Algerian National Railway Investment Authority has issued a notice of award, and CCECC has led a joint venture with local enterprise Infraail to successfully win the bid for the new railway project in Geldaye El Menia. The total length of the line is 230 kilometers, with a contract period of 24 months. The total price including tax is approximately 157.083 billion Algerian dinars, equivalent to 1.187 billion US dollars. There are four consortia participating in this bidding, and the other three, although meeting the basic bidding conditions, ranked low in the comprehensive evaluation and failed to win the bid. The project received $878.09 million in financing support from the African Development Bank in July of this year. As part of the second phase of the Lagvat Gelda El Menya railway corridor project, the entire corridor is planned to have a total length of 495 kilometers. Continued expansion of infrastructure in North Africa

All parties involved in the project have initiated preliminary preparations in advance, and the local partners of the consortium have held a special meeting to coordinate contract processing, construction organization, equipment and personnel entry, and other matters. The relevant departments in Algeria have also organized coordination meetings to accelerate the construction of the southern railway network. In recent years, Chinese companies have continued to participate in the construction of rail transit in Algeria, and have successively landed projects such as the Western Railway Mining Line, Eastern Mining Railway, and Algiers Metro Extension Line. With the extension of the southern railway and the improvement of mineral transportation infrastructure in Afghanistan, Chinese enterprises will continue to expand the local railway supporting market space based on past project experience.Editor/Min Jing
